Hi can someone have a look at these photos of my girls hocks.
Got her out her stable this morning as we had a show (typical) and noticed her hock was rather large! Sound on it, slightly warm but nothing to cause alarm. Decided to withdraw from jumping and turn out, brought her in and it doesn’t seem to have gone down much. There is a small scrape but not sure if it is of any significance as has scabbed over, looks old.
Some people have said capped hock? I should mention she had been kicking the wall at the mate next door at dinner time and this is the same leg that she kicks with
I have given her a danillon, just wondering if I should give the vet a ring tomorrow or wait and see if it goes down?
First photo was this morning, rest are just from 5 mins ago when she came in

It could be a capped hock. However, I'd clip it and see if there is any penetrating injury, an infected joint is very serious.
Normally I would’ve but there is no way I’d be able to clip that mares leg without my head getting caved in unfortunately. She did let me have a look around and I can’t see any wound apart from the scrape

vet then tomorrow if she won’t let you climb it to look properly.

Don’t give her anymore danilon. It’ll mask any pain and the vet needs to see what pain is being caused and whether she’s lame.
Thank you! I did kind of think it may need the vet to look at but wasn’t sure how urgently
She was sound prior to giving a danillon this morning so hopefully still the same but will hang off giving another one.
Weirdly the warmth is now gone, very odd

You might be ok. But if there’s an infection brewing there and it involves the hock I wouldn’t take the chance if it’s still the same tomorrow morning.

Thank you again! Going to attempt giving it a clip if I can get someone to hold her front leg, just for a bit peace of mind and go from there. Thank you again, I am always conscious about joints but never had this much of a swelling over one before!
