I've just bought my old boy back into work after he was out on loan and done nothing during that time, he is 17 and is actng more like a two yearsold fly bucking and rearing when ever he sees a clear gallop! As we were on our way home today my friend noticed his hocks are quite swollen, and it has made me really paranoid. He is a big sterdy belgian warmblood that did alot of jumping in his younger years, there is a little heat in both but nothing for me to worry about and he is certainly not lame! just wondering if i should be worrying about anything or if there is anything i should get him? I think they have always been swollen they are all bone and massive anyway but the seed has been planted now and i would appreciate any advice?

Is there any heat in them, and have you done a flexion test? My 18 year old cob has been diagnosed with DJD in both hocks this summer, and sometimes has a hot spot on the lower inside of the joint. He is not on half a bute a day, Naf superflex, Devils Claw Flex and generally wears Bioflow boots for 36 out of 48 hours. He is sound and happy on all that lot!

The heat is even in both of them very slight at the front! He is completley sound and acting like a 2 year old, but im just a little worried? they have always been big but now someone has mentioned tht they look bigger than they should do i worry, are they just general supplements you can buy in the store, he is alreay on glucosamine which is fantastic and there is a considerable amount of movement in his hocks than before he was on it?? x
