My boy was kicked in the field 4 weeks ago on the inside of his front leg, wound healing nicely but swelling still quite bad. He's only turned out in the day in at night. Ive lunged twice for 10 mins since getting kicked. No
lameness at all, looks completely sound. Vet agrees with no lameness
but is worried about swelling, he's got another week of antibiotics and bute but if no better they want him to have x rays and ultrasound. Obviously whatever he needs will be done, I'm insured so no problem with vets bill. But I'm just wondering if anyone has any advice for helping the swelling? It's not hot nor is the wound infected! Sorry it's long winded but just wanted to give as much info as possible! Thank you.

bag of Frozen peas bandaged to the knee (make sure you put a teatowel between plastic and skin!!) twice a day for half and hour. Do you have to bring in and stable? Would prefer to see out and walking on it.

I'm going to be leaving him out 24/7 this coming week so maybe that will help! Will try the peas, thank you. Just want to do as much as we can before vets come again. He's not so keen on them poking and prodding at him ;) he's very much the typical tb at times!

Sounds like my filly except hers was on the hock.

I don't want to sound alarmist but I'm nearly two months in to a kick on the hock and looking at surgery to remove a foreign body which got in there and has set up an immune response resulting in a huge swelling.

I've had the xrays and scan and she's on box rest waiting for it to settle enough for the vet to open it up and clean it all out.

No heat in it, no lameness, no soreness to touch. Just a big ugly, localised swelling over her hock. She has been on bute and trim and neither have touched it so it is just waiting now until we can fix her up properly.

Hope that isn't what yours is as my bill is at £1000 already and that's without it being remotely sorted!

I'm just hoping that as it's in such a funny place it's one of these things that's going to take a while to settle. Fingers crossed anyway! Insurance will love as just had a big colic bill! I'm going for - hope for the best, prepare for the worst and probably get somewhere in the middle! Whatever he needs he'll get but just want him to be sound and well, he's had a crappy 6 weeks but we've now moved yards and he's the most chilled I've ever seen him, him being sound would be the icing on the cake!
