My youngster got caught up in the hayrack yesterday .

I was there when she did it. Put her heel over the rail that sits 2" off the floor and then pulled back and found herself attached.

Basically she pulled back and back until the hayrack wouldn't move any more as it's tied to the fence.

Full blown panic ensued with her doing violent tugs until eventually the straps holding the thing to the fence broke. One more violent leap backwards and she was free of the thing and trotted away snorting.

She was sound, her legs appeared fine and there are no cuts.

This morning down at the field her left fore is very swollen and firm from behind the knee all the way to the fetlock, basically all round the leg from behind the cannon.

She's sound in walk. TBH I haven't trotted her up.

There's a bit of heat in the leg.

I cold hosed it for 15 mins this morning.

It was the same this evening so tubbed her for 20mins.

Do I need to call the vet?

Thanks

I think it would be best, she may have a tendon injury and need to be rested. you can never be too careful where legs are concerned. Hope its nothing to worry about though x

Had a similiar incident with a lump of wood off the stable block.I called the vet out and he said it was ok I really wish I had insisted on a scan as my horse had 80% tendon tear.Possibly the tear wasnt as bad initially but because vet had cleared him for lameness it became worse. For the sake of price of scan I would insist vet scans. My horses tear was behind the knee and couldnt be felt and there wasnt visble swelling.I hope your horse is ok but yes I would call the vet and ask for scan 10 days later and box rest inbetween.
