my youngster gets a slightly swollen front left leg after he has jumped !!

Not straight away but always the day after when he is been in - he is never lame on it and its not ever really hot just slightly larger than the other leg??

Should i but some icegel on it after i jump him in future or use a spray or something??

anyone any ideas what could cause this??

All sorts of things.

Might be something minor, such as the tissues have lost elasticity for some reason (essentially scaring of a sort) but that's unusual in a horse so young, might be the sign of an inflammatory process starting up, in which case, given the hopes you have for this horse, I might want to find out a little more about it. Where exactly is the swelling? Tendon? Above/around the fetlock? Around the leg or just inside/outside?

I'd probably get it scanned.
It's only a 4yr old right? If so, I wouldnt jump for a few weeks as it sounds like an early warning sign

its very very strange i am going to call the vet !! he has a dressage champs in 4 weeks so wont be doing any jumping he is fine when jumping on a surface but obviously not hard ground bless him !!! think ill leave that for a while x

swelling is just above the fetlock and the back like the bulb of the joint !! no heat either nothing at all and completely sound !!

Annular ligament strain? They don't always cause lameness but can be very troublesome if not allowed to heal. Fingers crossed for horse but definitely get it looked at. xx
