swollen leg- no lameness/heat

2 weeks ago i noticed one hind leg was slightly swollen, and the next morning it was huge around the fetlock. No heat, lameness, discomfort. Turned her out as usual during the day and swelling went down. Since then I have bandaged back legs at night (after washing and putting arnica on) to keep swelling down and she's turned out in the day (swelling reduces). I've had the farrier out to check hoof- but that's ok. and now had vet out who after a very quick look gave her IV antibiotics (just incase), IV anti inflam and bute for 4 days.
Do any of you have suggestions as to what this may be- the fluctuation in the swelling is not as great as initially but it's still not right. She's behaving normally, still no heat or lameness. Is this a knock or could it be tendon/ligament problem? Really hoping the bute will work wonders.

I would have thought the vet would have scanned it or suggested otherwise if they thought it was ligament/tendon damage.
my horses are quite good at doing this sort of thing and have come in from the field with all sorts of swellings. The vet usually says to leave them up to 5 days to see if it goes down as long as they aren't lame.

Hows the leg now? As it has been two weeks, hasnt it?

yes, it has now been 2 weeks. as there was no lameness/heat didn't call vet until this week. wasn't entirely impressed with the vet who must have touched the leg for a few seconds and saw her walk all of 40m. if the swelling doesn't go down at end of bute then was told to call the vet again. don't think the practise has a mobile scanning unit (but could be wrong).
think the swelling may have dropped a bit last night (might be wishful thinking!), but this morning was no different (bandaged overnight).
really hoping that there will be a huge improvement by monday (end of bute)!!

Hi, my horse came in about ten days ago with a filled hind leg, heat but no lameness. Couldnt find any cuts etc, so assumed a sting (highly unlikely at this time of year I know), a thorn or some other such thing causing either an allergic reaction or infection. Had the vet out who gave me antibiotics and bute and told me to stop bandaging but to hose the leg twice daily. Today the leg has gone down considerably bringing him in from the field and seems to be returning to normal but is still a complete mystery
