My horse recently had a PSD operation on both hinds...

The scars are looking fantastic (in that you cannot see them and there is no swelling at all) but the bottom of her leg, near the fetlock is quite swollen. She goes have a split in her heel by the looks of things, so I have cleaned that up and put some Dermagel on it. She is prone to lymphangitis in this leg from severe mud rash in 2006, so perhaps I am panicking about nothing!

I know the swelling will always track down, but surely there should be some heat near the scar if this was causing the swelling?

Hi...glad the operation is going good...
I was told after my mare had lymphangitis earlier this year in right hind...that any scratch or broken skin could flare up the lymphangitis in that leg now she has had it once...so have to keep an eye on it for any injuries...could your girl be reacting to the split?
Sorry...I don't really have any other ideas!!!

Thanks... that is what I am thinking too.

I just feel that if it was anything to do with the operation there would be some heat in the area of the scar, but it is completely flat, no swelling and more or less invisible.

Glad to hear your horse is doing well.
This is probably of no use at all but 2 days ago my horse had a big swollen hind fetlock (on the inside) There was no heat, he wasnt lame but vet was on yard so I asked him to have a look. He reckons he has knocked himself in the field as he is sound, flexion tests etc. Yesterday it was hot and swollen, today its almost back to normal. I just cold hosed it.
Its understandable you are concerned with the op but I also think the scar area would be hot and inflamed too if that was the cause.
