Swollen legs after tendon injury - help please

My horse is currently on pen rest in a corner of his field following a tendon injury over a month ago. Went up yesterday and all 4 of his legs were massively swollen from his fetlock to over his knees and hocks, difficult to tell if he's lame because of it or because of the original tendon injury. It's not a fluidly swelling and it's not his windgalls as he does get those from time to time. any idea's what else it could be? he is starting to get stressed and depressed about being on his own and his legs have swollen up before when he was on his own, could this be down to stress? Am waiting for the vet to call me back this morning
 
If it's lymphangitis it will be a pitting edema (sp?!), if you press a swollen area with your thumb quite hard, and it leaves a dip in the swelling, then it's probably lymphangitis!
 
Nothing to do with swelling but highly recommend Green Lipped Mussels for tendon recuperation. They are basically an edible form of Adequan. I get human grade (pm me if you want to know where, no fillers like you get in the horse versions), very cheap & produced amazing results on no-hope injury after vet had exhausted his repetoire. Recommended to two other no-hope tendon injuries, also produced excellent results.
 
Does sound like oedema (sp) fluid pooling because of lack of movement as it is in all four legs. Seen/experienced it in humans but never horses but spose it would happen the same. Please keep us updated when you do find out what it is. Good Luck.

I got mine cheaply from Healthspan :) really helped our chap :)
 
Thank you for the Green lipped mussels tip, will definately look in to getting some.
it doesn't go away or dip when pressed it feels just like his leg normally does but is about 3 times the size that they should be!
 
Well yesterday I moved him out of his pen, as he needed hay in it and buted him and bandaged his legs up and put him back into the big field (with vets permission) and today legs are pretty much back to normal so I can only conclude that its an allergy to something in the hay so will find an altenative source of it and keep fingers x'ed!!!
