On Friday my horse slipped quite badly in the school. The next day he had an egg sized heamatoma in between his front legs on his chest. I kept an eye on it and hacked him out and turned him out and it started to go.
On Sunday the weather was terrible and he stayed in but was hacked for 45mins that evening. The lump had almost gone.
Yesterday morning the lump had totally gone but his front legs were huge and hot. I turned him out to see if that would help. He was out all day and although some swelling had gone they were still hot and swollen. I decided to ride him to see if they went down. He was still his usual spooky self but was def lethargic and so I got off, legs still fat and I think he was overly sweaty for the little amount of work he did.
I bandaged him and chatted to the vet who said give him some bute and monitor him. He is out again this morning but they are still a bit swollen.
He is eating well but I don't think he is his normal chirpy self.
Do you think it is linked to the fall and the heamatoma or perhaps something else?

I would say they are linked to the fall and the crappy weather wont be helping sore and aching legs! My elderly pony slipped in the mud after getting his leg stuck in a deep part a couple of weeks ago and was very quiet, sore and tender for a week. No cuts, no swellings just tender to touch. He just got brought in everyday to have some quiet time out of the wind and rain, have an old man sleep and have some danilon. A friend's youngster slipped in the school and had 3 weeks off as she was not 100% sound.

I would give him some time off, walk him in hand for 5 mins or so to help with swelling, bandage and hose as necessary and continue bute till he looks a bit perkier. If he doesn't pick up then phone the vet again:)

When K. jumped the gate and had heamatoma in between the front legs the swelling first disappeared from initial injury site after about 1 week, then "moved" behind the girth area and onto both forearms and stayed there for about 3 weeks in total until all was gone.
