Having switched PO onto a new feed (Spillers competition mix slow release) he has gone really well, good condition, tone etc. BUT in the mornings he sometimes has swollen legs. They come down when he is worked/turned out, but I wondered if anyone knew the cause and if there was anything I could do about it. It doesn't seem to bother him but....

I agree - too much protein in the new feed. Stop feeding it, infact I'd cut out all hard feed for a while as the grass is very rich at the moment.

Ok, thanks. Not sure I can cut all out, because we're doing lots of competitions, but will cut down and see if improves....

Having looked at protein levels, protein percentage is actually much less than the old feed.... Any other thoughts?

I would still bet on it being too much protein plus the lack of movement at night. The rich grass alone could be enough as it is definately flushing. Please be very careful as a lot of horses are coming down with laminitis at the moment.
