I need some advice!
Due to the horrid weather recently the yard where my horse is kept has stopped all turn out, although they all go on the horse walker for 30-60 mins each day. I have been riding him daily and have had no problems.
I did a BSJA competition yesterday where he uncharacteristically knocked a few fences. This morning both his hind legs were filled and hot, particularly around the pastern region. He doesn't seem to be in any pain but there is evidence of a knock on one leg, possibly from hitting a jump yesterday. The yard agreed to turn him out today and will hose his legs when he comes in from the field and after horse walker sessions until the swelling/heat cease.
Is there anything I can do to help? The owner of the yard suggested I shouldn't ride him at the moment. I was wondering if walk hacks would help? I have stable boots which I could use at night if they would help too!
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Many thanks,
Holly

I would probably go on a walk hack - just to get the swelling/fluid moving really. If he isn't lame then don't see it can do any harm and might do some good - just keep it short and see if it helps. My mare's legs would always fill up the first few days she came in overnight in the autum/winter, just until she got used to it. Hind legs have such hopeless circulation!

Just another thought - have you checked for any sign of cracked skin around the heels - ie beginning of mud fever? Worth a dig around with your finger tips in case...
