just brought horses in both have swollen parotid glands under neck both eating seem fine and doesnt seem painful, just read thread in h and h that this may be grass gland caused by allergy but they are on same grass, feed ,hay as normal and its been raining all day so wouldnt think pollen .any thoughts or similar experience. i did have a horse that reacted like this to oil seed rape but that is finishing.

There's the problem....the rain. The rain we have hadf over the last few days has caused a grass to really grow. This flush of grass, often causes glands to swell.

Is that the gland where the head meets the neck kind of under the jaw bone??? If so oh my god that is soooo wierd!!! Inky has come in tonight with the same thing and was worried myself he was coming down with something. He ate his tea and was definatley ok in himself so was going to see how he was tomorrow. So if its the same thing my worries have been quashed!! ( please tell me its the same thing...... )

Don't worry, it's very common.

Especially in mares I think, as all my friends' horses with mares get it but the geldings don't so much
