Ponio has been coming in from the paddock with swollen glands the last couple of days, he's fine in himself, and eating and drinking fine. Nothing else to cause concern.

Is it likely to be his silivary glands? Not had one that's suffered from it before...but I hear it's quite common.

THey go down quite quickly once he comes in, and have returned to normal by morning. Presumably they are draining overnight while his head is raised and not grazing.

Friends new horse had the same last week, she panicked and thought strangles but they went down the next day. She had recently changed fields to one with some grass, so that was the cause.

Sounds exactly like grass glands especially as spring grass is coming through - looks like a hamster in the evening back to normal by morning. Nothing to worry about although might be uncomfortable when ridden in an outline if very big.

Sounds like grass glands to me too. Common in piggy neds when the spring grass starts to come through. They eat and eat and eat and eat and eat and eat so their salivary glands have to work overtime and get swollen. Nothing to worry about at all.
