How lame has any of you known a horse be from a tendon sheath injury and if very bad for how long?? Many thanks

Well my mare was first seen to have swelling on her LH distal tendon sheath with lameness at the end of August, and despite treatment, is still intermittently lame on it. She has now been turned away at grass and it is permanetly swollen (on box rest it wasn't), but cold.

Sorry maybe not what you wanted to hear!

Has it been scanned? This will let you know the extent of the injury. One of ours had a slight swelling last year, and with treatment was back in work 3 weeks later.

The second scan he had showed complete healing.

Hi,

My horse came in about a week and a half ago with a laceration on the knee as it was on the joint I called the vet out.

A week later later we had eliminated any risk of joint infection and the swelling in the leg had all dispersed.. except some swelling on the right of the knee.

Yesterday the vet decided that the horse has an infected extensor tendon. Horse is not lame at all as the tendon is not weight bearing. Today he sedated, flushed and injected anti biotics directly into the tendon. horse will be on a course of injected anti biotics which will hopefully brind the swelling down... if not he is talking about admitting my pony to take the tendon out????

My TB had this at the beginning of January. He was absolutely hopping lame for 2-3 days (as in on three legs!) Vet came out and he was admitted as he was so lame they thought it could have been infected rather than inflamed. Lots of scans, taps etc and they thought it was probably just inflammation (so no op). He was practically sound the following day!!

He has had three months box rest with a controlled exercise programme and has been back in full work for the last 6 weeks or so and is out 24/7. He is now jumping 1.20 again. His last scan about 6 weeks ago showed that there was no tendon damage. He is left with a small windgall which doesn't affect his soundness in any way.

Hiya, not sure if you'd be at all interested but a friend of mine has recently aquired a Hydrotherpay spa which is supposed to be excellent for tendon injuries and reducing swelling. There's a vet on site. Her place is nr Gatwick so not hugely far from you.

Thankyou for all your replys. I have a spa local to me that I have used, can you tell me how often your friend would recommend and how much she charges and for how long a session?? Many thanks

would have to ask her I'm afraid - I know she's going to be offering some special introduction rates. Will speak to her and get back to you x

So what are peoples opinions on a horse that has had an injury like this through being turned out, living in permenantly???
