Good morning new to this group hoping for some opinions please

I have an 18yr old ex racer owned him 7 yrs, about 4 weeks ago pulled a shoe in field and had swelling around fetlock. Rested, cold hosed it reduced, has windgalls so always has a bit of swelling there. Having magnet therapy on over night turned out, also had osteopath to check over he had some issues in pelvis which he sorted.

Riding in walk, with the odd bits of excited jogging into canter, but pulled up quickly.

Fetlock swollen again, went away on hols then had vet out on return, lame on flexion on that leg, recommended ultra sound.

That’s now been done and only query is possibly maniac flexoria, everything else good

Vet has priced 2000 for debridement, I do not have the money for this his insurance won’t cover, he’s Insured for external injury only, plus colic surgery and tendon flushing due to sepsis.

The alternative is steroid/ha injection.

Has anyone had similar , what was prognosis?

Am awaiting call from vet as she was going to get second opinion on scan pics

Thanks in advance

Its the manica flexora not the maniac flexora :) My friends horse had this injury, its the tendon sheath that allows the DDFT to run through it and she had a slight tear. She had surgery on her horse and it had about a prognosis of around 75% return to work. Sadly the horse was lost to another unrelated reason so she did not discover how well it would have done.

My ex race mare, who had previously had a tendon injury, went slightly lame with swelling around her fetlock. She was in full work at the time and the vet said that the scarred tendon was causing inflammation of the annular ligament. I think we box rested with walking exercise for a couple of weeks with cold hosing then turned her away for a few months.
She was brought back into light work and continued as a riding club horse with no problems.

Thank you , am hoping that it’s a good outcome for him, he’s a superstar, not lame unless flexed so hoping I can get him through it without surgery 🤞
