Swollen udders

My 9yr old mare has swollen udders there is no discharge from them and they are not hot.
yesterday being the first time discovered increased in size today.
they are firm behind the udder yet still squishy.

Swollen mammary bits or a sheath in a gelding can be a sign of insulin resistance. If you can take her off the grass for 48 hours and feed soaked hay and they go down that might be the cause especially if they swell again once she goes back on the grass. They don’t have to be good doers or overweight to be IR.

agree with this, my old girls swell up when the grass is growing . In fact, she swells everywhere now shes getting on a bit ( sort of know that feeling !) , you can always tell when the grass is growing just by looking at Asha. But a night in off the grass always does the trick
