Can anyone tell me if there is still the same risk of maple tree seeds as there is of sycamore seeds? The maple tree seeds look exactly the same, but they flick out the way instead of in the way.

I think field maples are safe around paddocks for horses. I sent off samples to the Woodland Trust for identification. I have one sycamore and two nearby field maples. I have read in several internet sources that field maples do not contain hypoglycin A which is poisonous to horses so leave the leaves and seeds and seedlings of the maple. I am meticulous about picking up seeds, seedlings and leaves from the sycamore though.

Field maple and Norway maple are both fine. Without seeing a photo of the seeds it's not possible to say which you have.
Thanks. I know what we have. My question was -do maple seeds pose as much of a threat as sycamore seeds do, thankfully they don't seem to.

There are loads of maples. Maple refers to the genus, not the species. Sycamore is a maple, for example. If you have field maple, that's fine.

Just to say my friends horse died from eating one in the hay. She found a couple more in the bale. Sycamore that is. They can travel quite a way.

I have spent all day on my summer track which is bordered by 7 sycamore trees. It’s only an acre and I’ve mowed and collected the lot bar one small part which which will be done before they go back on it. With the toxicity in seedlings this year which is horrendous I have also looked at spraying if the mowing doesn’t achieve the desired effect. Kaylem your comment about hay is a good point, people always look for ragwort but few would consider sycamore in hay.

Currently trying to find out if my trees are field maple.... I'm suspecting that in the rural location we are they are field maple 😬

Field maple has small leaves, sycamore leaves tend to be hand sized when fully grown in the summer. If you still have any dead leaves on the floor, that is a good way to tell 😊
