Who would people reccomend to ride a v. sensitive & v. powerfull horse? Has to be someone that is tall/strong, classical/correct on the flat and and is a natural/soft showjumper
My next suggestion would be one of the top lot- WFP, Daisy and Sharon would be my faves but I doubt they would take the ride?
Francis whittington may be worth a try and Terry Boon certainly is a fab flat rider, though I havent seen him jump much.
Trouble is riders with a full quality string will not take the ride, just a thought what about Mark Corbett? Have seen him do some good things with some difficult horses and he is not aggresive which I think W would loathe.
I am going to get in touch with WFP and Daisy tomorrow, they are both on the top of my list- but as you say it will be tricky with both of them.
Terry is excellent, but I sometimes get the impression he is a bit Pip Funnell with his jumping?
Yes, I was going to say Harry Meade. Despite his rather atrocious judgement at Burghley, I still rate him as a quiet patient rider who also manages the horses very well in the stable. You could send him to Kat for the winter, you know - she'd do it for free!!
Mark Todd! he is based near Swindon, no idea if he would be taking horses on but if you want classical, worldly sensitive and basically 'the best' give him a go!
O_B what are you trying to get out of it? If it is flatwork then I can't recommend anyone more than the guy I am training with currently. He's not 'an eventer' but he does have a girl whose ridden to advanced on his yard and is looking for an eventer to buy which he will train on the flat and she will jump/compete.
I am seriously considering sending B there over the winter for a spell, although I am also considering sending him to a SJer, selling him, giving up, buying a dressage horse and doing that instead and possibly even quitting horses and having fun with the money buying another house, snowboarding, surfing, biking, getting haircuts etc, so don't hold me to the first plan
Seriously though, Sam is one of the few people I'd send my horse to and happily leave him there unsupervised.
I was looking for a yard a short time ago pending a work move to Reading (which ended up being Egham!). Based on the recommendations from loads of HHO'rs I went to see Craig Nicolai's yard at Cane End Stud and was seriously impressed. My horse sounds much like yours, very sensitive, very hot & very talented but on regular occasions quite unrideable(!) and I sent him there for two weeks schooling when I went on holiday and was seriously impressed at the results. Craig is a really quiet rider and would be an ideal choice. I think that he is competing at Blenheim next week but in any case his website is www.craignicolai.com and I think that contact info is on there.
Terry is a wonderful rider. His horses are so happy. He is very calm and if anything really gives them time. He happily drops down a level if the horse needs it. I really rate him.
