Sympathy and advice needed in equal proportion!

Late finding this, owwie total sympathy.
I did similar stepping off a canal boat of all things! Stepped into mud ankle went to the right both leg bones hit the floor.
I did everything except break it, apparently quite impressive. Nothing more fun than rushing to the hospital at 4 mph on a canal boat, also a bunch of ramblers popped up in the hedge when I did it, last thing you need!

Anyway I had many weeks on crutches , hospital didn't strap it up but I did as it wobbling with every hop nearly made me pass out.
Many weeks on crutches working from two to one and then a walking stick and then nothing.
Thankfully I did get some physio with the NHS and they used ultra sound on it to get the swelling to go down, I'd go in hobbling and come out nearly walking, fantastic stuff.

I have photos to share as well if you fancy!

Hope you feel better soon, like others it was just a few days till I was back at work thanks to desk job but was a good while before I could ride again.

Flexi stirrups are now my friend.

Having seen several ligament injuries to Knees and ankles I can really recommend the aircast cryocuff system.....is pretty pricey but I have known healing time reduced by approximately 50% using this system, the ice and compression provided is invaluable for reducing the swelling in the first few days. There are sometimes some 2nd hand ones on ebay.

I did a 2 in 1 injury (no half measures here!) falling down 2 flights of stairs and landing sat on my ankle. Apparently the pop I heard was my ligaments, I also broke it too. Was in plaster for 8 weeks, and towards the end I had a walking plaster on, then a tubigrip support for about 4 weeks after. It was very weak but I had some physio. 9 years on (god I am getting old!) the only real problems I have is in cold weather and it gets sore. I also can't "wrap" it around a horses side but I have kind of learnt to adjust it now
I think rest, ice, compression, and also good supportive footwear is great. I wear Ariat zip up short boots now as I find they support my instep and ankle more.
Then I fractured my other ankle with no idea how I did it, but that's another tale!

On saturday yours truely the dim-wit of lincolnshire decided for fun to attempt a triple pike off the lorry ramp, resulting in the rest of the day being spent in A&E.
The end result being a diagnosis of two ruptured right ankle ligaments but thankfully no break. My ankle is now the size of a melon and is every colour of the rainbow. My left knee is skinned and black and blue and is also the size of a melon as that knee is damaged permantly anyway.
I am officially a total plank.
That was the shameless quest for sympathy part of the post...........

The serious part is how long before I can ride again? The doctor at A&E was muttering darkly about ligament damage being worse than breaking it and it could be months - MONTHS? Is he serious? Has anyone done something similar and how quickly were you back in the saddle?

Hi,

Came across this post in my 'filing system' and was wondering how you are progressing with your injuries.
