Sympathy for me...And bens biggest tanrrum

Actually, yes I would, I have ripped her dew claw out once and used a stick tip to stem the bleeding before, as with my old lurcher. Yes this was not for cosmetic reasons, but it was done... daisy will whimper and flinch when you touch her feet... always has been a wuss over feet.

Ha Ha, no, Im just into animal cruelty... Im sadistic:p:p, shes a flipping calamity, I was going to have them removed as a pup but decided against it as we lived in a more towny area... I wish I had! She generally does herself in when chasing a ball or more particularly chasing down fat springer... she thinks he's a rabbit! One time she split it right down and I had taken her to the vets for the umpteenth time, he said there were 2 ways... the easy way or the hard way, one was sedate, the other 'you hold, I'll pull!':eek::eek: I went for that option. Ive since had to do it once more with her, but now that claw (and it was always that one damn claw) is much smaller and doesn't catch. My lurcher, did the same once, although we managed to actually cut his back but it had to be cut quite close, he damn near fainted into me, bless him! Then you use a quick pen to stem any blood flow. Not pleasant to do, but it gets the job done and i always worried about her catching it in the car on the way to the vets and doing more damage... (she has done this before too!)
 
Wee S didnt want hers pulled *think triple layer welshyxdales mane!!!* so after her knocking both me and my step ladders over and breaking my toes she got popped in the trailer with a haynet and that soon stopped her stomping over the top of me and i got her mane done in short time.

I tried raking it and all it did was make it grow in thicker and ragged and I hated it.

I dont pull tails, I rake the top of the tail then trim close with thinning scissors. No pain for me or horse and looks just fine :)

yeah, I clip and rake tails. :D I used to cross tie a pony... that got the job done! :D

Ha Ha, Im really not that fussed, if necesarry I am happy to describe the route I hacked on, what vehicles I passed, what the day was like, what I was wearing, the colour and type of comb I used, unfortunately I did not keep an accurate tally of exactly how many hairs I took in each pull and how many pulls I made in total.:rolleyes::rolleyes:

I can then go on and describe the following day too!

Oh I totally understand, I'd have done the same! My dog has double dew claws on each feet however they have never caused her any problems (thankfully!!). If they did then it would be a trip to the vets, I'm far too squeamish to do it myself! I'd pass out and need a paramedic! ;)

As for the mane pulling debate, I have always pulled manes and I personally don't think that you are a cruel owner in the slightest! :D

Ditto. Dont see why people are so shocked when horses object to having their hair ripped out... Its another one of those 'traditional' things that have hung about and really should have disappeared by now as other (kinder) methods of 'pulling' have been invented.

Bit of an overreaction to mane pulling! I didn't think it was very nice as my old share mare was very sensitive about even having her mane brushed, so with new chap I was talking to my BF about how its done and pulled a bit out, horse didn't even react! So I set about doing it one day and I honestly done think he can feel it other than near his poll which I don't really do anyway as he is a TB and it only grows thick in the middle. I had never done it before so was quite pleased with the result although it was very overgrown and dry!

I hear they just don't have many nerve endings there, but obviousjy some feel it more than others :-)

Naughty Ben!! I defo sympathise with the biting (if you remember QB you advised me on my bitey monster who is now much better and going to try clicker training now as hadn't got round to it yet now have broken arm!)! Get some arnica on it xx

Oh no bless you! Horse related break? Hope you're well on the mend now :D

He's happy as anything today, and obviously not feeling any after effects as he was happy for me to touch his neck all over and brush his mane... He is now enjoying a nice couple of days off to relax as hes been ridden 5 days straight, I will probably hack him out on friday and show off his mane.
 
See a horse I knew a couple years back, loved having his mane and tail done! He was quite an alert and active baby hoss, but you started pulling his mane of tail and you would have a sleepy and perfectly happy horse.his owner had had him since he was three and he hasn't been done before her! But he was a bit of an odd ball! So it depends on the horse. A pony at work refuses to have her face or legs clipped, rears up and
 
Strikes out. But will stand dozing without a headcollar for mane pulling! She would let us know if she didn't like it! Trust me! :p
 
Yes Queenbee it was a silly fall! We were just leaving out for a hack and he got excited and was doing a bit of hopping about which he does quite often, but suddenly the ground came up to hit me! I don't know I just lost my balance, oh well! Thing is other than the elbow fracture I damaged the tendon so had to have an operation on that yesterday - now very sore and 3 months to heal!

Haha Chottsy mine would definitely let me know if it was a problem too :-) haven't done his tail as it is pretty raggedy at best!
