Symptoms of gastric ulcers

loss of condition/not putting on condition
loss of appetite
cribbing/windsucking
tucked up appearance
sensitive over stomach
strange stomach sounds

Off the top of my head.

Same as above plus "gulping" air in/swallowing when in work/after feeding (not full blown wind sucking) Playing with the tongue after eating, lack of stamina when working, generally being grumpy and not wanting to go forwards freely when being worked. If you Google it, some very good and interesting sites come up...

Out of those we have:
- Gulping like KatB suggested, only when something stresses her out, but it happens.
- Not wanting to go forwards freely at the moment when worked (this could also be a contact issue, fed up, etc etc).
- She's always been sensitive over her stomach when being handled, but is sensitive everywhere else too

She is a horse that has a loss of appetite every so often, but at the moment she is eating everything I am putting in front of her. She is on Healthy Hoof (will not eat Alfa A), TopSpec Balancer and Baileys Endurance Mix (still being added gradually).

Does anyone have any good websites they can suggest?

She was scoped in December and was clear as part of the colic surgery preparation.

Other, more subtle possibilities are not really toning up through the belly despite otherwise being fit, and not using stomach muscles properly when moving.

Im convinced my Dressage horse has Ulcer's. He's been on Gastri X for 3 months & there is an improvement in his overall Behavior he seems happier.
He's fine to tack up, doesnt like being groomed but isnt keen on being groomed anywhere.
Will grab hold of a fence when tied up but this dramatically decreased since being on Gastri X.
He does seem to suffer lack of stamina & doesnt want to move freely forward, is happier behind the leg.

Im going to get him scoped sometime this month while i also get his Sacoids looked at & treated.

What was the procedure if you dont mind me asking for Scoping did you have to starve the horse for 12 hrs prior?? This is something i have been told i would have to do & im not keen at all at not feeding for 12 hrs especially if he does have ulcers. Is this true??

Sorry Jetset for jumping on your thread.

If you want to chat to someone with experience, PM Kelly_Fi - her horse has currently got them and is undergoing treatment
