I'm not posting to start another debate but just wondering if anyone saw the picturel of synchronised in the sun, just before he was put down, he has an ear still pricked and jockey cuddling his neck, just bought tears to my eyes. RIP to synchronised and according to pete.

Yes good on him for staying with him, was it a broken leg he had? not wanting to start the whole thing up again its just he looked to be weight bearing and all four legs however im sure it was the Adrenalin kicking in xxx

Good on that jockey, what a moving photo. Must admit my first thought was 'where was McCoy' and then I remembered that the horse had carried on without him and he was being treated by paramedics himself.

Yep good man Paddy. Just shows that jockey's aren't horse hating cruel b*****s that the anti racing fraternity would like to imagine they are!

Very moving picture - good on Paddy Brennan. I suspect McCoy was just too far away to help - the horse came down at Bechers and this was several fences further on.

On another note, the below para in the article really annoyed me.

"TV animal expert Anna Webb said horses who break legs are put down because it is too expensive to keep them.

She added: “The leg could be healed but it would cost thousands in vets bills and would be of no use other than as a pet"

IF she's such an "expert", surely she would understand the physiology and structure of a horse and therefore why 90% of the time its just not possible to save them - be it a racehorse or a Shetland!!

Good to see evidence those within the industry do care about the animals and not just the winnings.

It looks like the off hind is being held up - look at the level of the hock and turned out toe.

I was just going to say the exact same thing, a good one-sided account from a so called 'expert'. Obviously it's easy to get a half ton flight animal to rest in traction while the fracture heals. (I am aware some fractures are healed with a LOT of care and dedication).

A bitter sweet photo, so can't help doing a smiley :) x glad he had some comfort , was surprised to see him putting weight on all four legs, but as others have said he was high so would not have felt it :( xx

Yes I did have a bet, yes I did bet on the winner, still very sad :( thoughts to all directly involved

Can't help feeling very emotional looking at that picture...

Just goes to show that those racehorses are loved and mean something very dearly to the people who know them...

R.I.P Sync and Pete x

:(

ETA: as for that socalled "expert" whats her name? Would you really put your animal through the treatment that would be required to treat those kinds of injuries? And I say treat because very rarley would it be an injury that was curable. As owners of any animals I think IMO that we owe it to them to do the right thing if the alternative would lead to further pain and suffering. Sometimes we just need to draw the line and say enough is enough.

Yeah that tv expert wants flaying or something, what a silly and inaccurate thing to say, it is not about the money at all, it's about mercy and reality. What a div :(

Does anyone have a link to the picture?

Such a moving photograph...it brought a tear to my eye. As awful as the circumstances are, it's nice to see that some aren't all in it for the money, as Paddy Irish said, a horseman through and through.

But aren't we all true horsemen, when it comes to something like that, would many of us walk away when it came to the crunch. Just makes me angry when the no hopers jump on the bandwagon about how rotten racing and the people that surport it are and how it should be banned. Nobody made the owners enter their horses in the Grand National as nobody makes them enter their horses in any race wether NH or Flat racing, as they all know the risk of what can happen.

Gosh, just from that pic you just wouldn't really think anything was wrong. Had paddy fallen at that fence and then saw Sychronised fall? God, it's just so frustrating really isn't it, he fell but gets up and is ok (I assume) and yet injures himself jumping free. :(

Also, what an ignorant woman saying that re horse limb fractures. Yep some can be fixed but it depends on the nature of the break and also how well the horse is going to cope with the rest and the recuperation and we all know that some just won't do very well. There are so many things to consider before attempting to treat. I am pretty damn sure if anything could have been done it would have been.
