Did you see in H&H this week the new scheme from Heart of the South and the BSJA.

You can now buy a 5% share in a horse that is trained and riden by Justin Tuff so you get all the fun of owning a top horse without the usual costs. You also get a share of the prize money won and a shre of the profit when is the horse is sold.

Do you think that this is a good idea?

Seems to me that it should bring more owners into the sport.

If you missed the article in H&H have a click on www.heartofthesouth.net

Add the £150 PER SHARE costs per MONTH and I am afraid it becomes less of a good option to me

Also there is no guarentee the horse will ever be sold. I am afraid if I wanted a share in an SJ horse I would want it to be with a higher profile, more succesful rider who would open doors to events that usually I wouldn't get to attend (think Super League etc)

OOhhh, OK, I geddit now.
Um.. wouldn't tempt me. I think the thing is that most of us here on HHO keep our own horses and have less of an interest in supporting someone else's, no matter how wonderful they are. Does that make sense? Weezy is right, it does seem pricey... costs less than that per month to keep PF in full livery where I am.
I still don't understand the poll though.

Sounds like a really good deal................................for Justin!

He gets £32,000 for the horse in the first place then an additional £36,000 costs per annum.

Anyone want a 5% share in mine. Only £250 initial share cost and £30 per month.

Well I think that anything that might see more horses UK owned has to be a good thing....BUT.....i' struggling to get my head around the numbers ! A 5% share at £1600 adds up to a £32k horse....not overly ridiculous for a potential top level horse....but £150 per month from each shareholder equates to a monthly income of £3k for someone

I don't know too many horses...even top flight ones...that would cost that much per month to run

This story was on the BSJA website about a month ago. I honestly do not believe that you could buy a top class horse for £32k, which makes me think that it isn't. And then I worked out how much per month they were making and thought they were having a laugh.

I also didn't 'get' the poll !!. I agree with others in that I can't think a potential top horse can be bought for £ 32k and I think the only one to come out well financially would be Justin Tuff. Also I read one article that said these syndicate people will have full unlimited access to his yard and personally I can't think of any showjumper who would want or welcome such intrusion. Like someone else said if its gonna be done do it properly with a big name on a big horse.

My guess is they are factoring in full competition livery - so riders time to ride/school/compete, competition entry fees and travel cost - fuel etc. So not that much if you think 5% would make you feel like you had an interest in the horse.

Much more than I'd pay though
