Does any one know if horse boxes have to use their taco if travelling long distances? Is it legal or not?

Anything over 7.5 tonnes does, for any journeys, but under 7.5 tonnes not atall, is my understanding. Our 7.5tonne lorry with small trailer, that can be driven on a 'normal' old license needs one, as it also does with large trailer and HGV driver. With no trailer it doesn't need one...I belive but might be wrong.

This is interesting as mine has a tacho from its 'former life' and I have never used it, wouldnt know how and was never told anything about it when I bought the horsebox as a new conversion.

Yes same here but some one told me if you are travelling a long distance you have to use it. I just thought I'd post on here and see if it's advisable. I will ask at the local depot though to be sure
