Tacho calibration on 7.5t

What actually does it entail?

Taking your vehicle to an approved VDO/Kienzle or other tacho station (usually a commercial autoelec or truck maindealer) and they will calibrate it by testing the truck on a rolling road and then attach a small seal to the back of the tacho head.

Mine failed it's plating yesterday as when it was converted they sprayed on the sticker

Hi, Can someone please explain what all this is about. My 7.5t is going for its plate in a week, is also a conversion and no doubt mines been sprayed where it shouldnt have been

I think basically, you have a sticker in the cab saying that the tacho has been calibrated. I could be wrong though.

The sticker is inside the tacho itself when you open it where the card goes they dont have to be up to date for private use but done as tacho is used as speedometer. Not sure how a tacho sticker inside the thing gets sprayed over though?

Just found this

Privately owned horseboxes not exceeding 7.5 tonnes used for non-commercial personal carriage and registered before 1st April 2007 are exempt from having a tachograph fitted. If one is already fitted as a speedometer it will be exempt from the two and six yearly inspections as long as the seals remain intact.

I think so. I have no idea, I just handed it over to the mechanic. How old is yours?

If you open up your tacho there should be a sticker on it.

You only need to have had done the initial calibration, so one sticker, if it is private use.

Madam_max - someone must have tried really hard to spray your sticker.

We've just had our Tacho done by Scania & it cost £52!
