Tack and different bits - uses etc

Sorry to sound thick but are there any good books or websites that explain different tack and their uses?

There are so many different bits, nose bands etc just wondered if there was anything to explain.

Thanks. I have googled but not really found what I wanted as a lot came up with American stuff. I just see pictures of horses wearing different tack and wonder what it's for. Unbalanced that's a great one.

Second that. It's taught me a lot (and I was never in the Pony Club) about all sorts of tack and boots/bandages.
