tack cleaning again!

I have saddle soap, ko-cho-line and neatsfoot. I need to clean it, but I find that after I clean my tack with the ko-cho-line, the bridle pieces go all sticky and grey when you start using it.

How do other people keep their tack dry and soft?! It's much better when I use neatfoot, but seems too dry and almost brittle.

Whenever I use ko-cho-line on something (saddle at the moment) I put the item in a plastic bag for at least 5 days after wards to let it soak in, if it is sticky when I get it out, I saddle soap the excess off.

I'm probably doing it wrong mind, but I've used it that way for about 30 years now

i mainly use ko-cho-line or neatsfoot if i am going to be not using something for a while.(apply then wrap in newspaper)

for tack cleaning...

basicaly,you wash the leather to get grease,mud etc off,then, feed the leather with a balsm to keep it supple,then saddle-soap the flat side to waterproof it.

Use a good leather feed such as Effax Leather Balsam or Hamanol. Ko-cho-line is meant for storage rather than regular cleaning.

Ko-cho-line is really used for storing leather not for everyday use. It contains Vaseline which is why it goes sticky and grey when in use.

Wash it all off with warm water and Glycerine soap. Allow to dry then oil lightly with Flexelan - don't soak in oil - too much oil weakens the leather.

Try to wipe bridle after each use as this keeps it more supple. Pull straps out of keepers, wipe with dampp cloth and then glycerine.

I just give mine a good rub with a damp spunge that had been in hot water then, when dry I use a tack conditioner that leaves it lovely and shiny with a gorgeous smell.
