Hi,
my daughters pony needs a new saddle, were hoping next spring to do some shows- L/R or first ridden, tack and turnout etc- so what would be the correct colour tack? does it matter? would we be marked down for the wrong colour??
if it makes any difference pony is a chestnut.

thank you for any advice- as im a complete showing newbie!!

:)

Definitely brown for showing, also not too forward cut as you want to show off the pony's shoulder. Good luck and enjoy - I had some very happy times with my daughter when she was at that stage.

Definitely brown for most showing situations and combinations - I fit many showing saddles, as I specialise in natives and cobs, and very few go for black. They tend to be mainly piebalds and the odd black horse, though I think dark brown makes the horse look blacker :D.

And be aware that some showing saddles have VERY thin panels in order to sit really close to the horse, and these types are not ideal for every day riding, especially if a small adult is going to be exercising the pony at any time. There are several companies that make showing models, or in some cases just one model, that have proper flocked panels that are still sufficiently close contact to make a neat and stable fit.

Definitely brown for showing as the others have stated - particularly on a chestnut pony.

My daughter started off with a straight cut cheapie suede saddle with no knee rolls. This might come as a bit of a shock to a youngster if they're not used to it.

We've now moved on to a Fylde, which is still straight cut, has a suede seat and knee rolls which keep the legs in place and gives a bit of security.

Good luck!! :)
