For my bright bay horse, he currently has a havana bridle and a black saddle.
Personally black looks better on bays but I want havana.
Give me your opionions please:) Nothing other than black or havana. Not loaded enough to go and buy every bit of tack!
x

I would stick with the saddle if it fits!

However, bear with me, this may sound daft, if you put a brown numnah and /or girth and stirrup treads on and maybe some black bit rings on your bridle, it goes a long way to camofluaging both!

That is what I would do, well actually I would just buy a new bridle but I am trying to be helpful :p

I don't mind buying a new saddle, there are some good quality, cheap ones about. I just want matching tack so don't worry about the budget, worry about what colour tack I'd need for all phases?
thanks guys xxx

I would always say havana but if your saddle is black and fits just stick with black :)

ETA: if money doesn't matter then havana is more correct if you want to do showing.

If you say havana, then I'll go for havana. As he's only 5 & I'm in a wintec atm which will be fine for the time being, I will get a havana saddle later on when we start competing:) Although you can get leather saddles with an interchangeable gullet, I'm debating:) Money isn't a problem for the time being just mean I don't want to have to buy a whole new set which is why I'm picking between havana and black if you get me?:)
thanks for you opionion xxxxxx

Well personally I would rather spend the same money on a better quality second hand saddle, you get more for your money!

I either p/x my saddles that no longer fit or ebay them. It doesn't mean they are not in pristine condition.

that is now very embarrassing how rude i was...haha! im really sorry! had a TERRRRIBLE night on facebook -____-. Ignore my horrible rant.
Yeahh thats what I'm thinking!
Or thinking of trading it in for something and paying extra but it's a wintec :/ but most people like those!x

Yes I would think you would not have too much trouble moving it on. It's worth comparing the percentage a saddler would take with E bay/Freeads fees. Some saddlers don't hold 2nd hand synthetics because they would rather push the new ones.

My saddler doesn't stock wintec's but he told me where had a sale on at the time the came out and changed the gullet once it arrived! Gullets been changed 3 times in a year so my cheap £300 wintec 500 gp saddle has been fab ;-) highly recommend x

For proper showing you need a leather saddle, I had a Wintec, felt like riding on a board, so now have an older [1980?] but little used Jeffries event saddle, £218 delivered off Ebay, yes it was a god buy, best thing was it fitted like a glove, and is nice to ride in.
It took me about three weeks to find and secure the right saddle, if it had not fitted I would not have lost anything in a re-sale, but I was 90% sure it would fit my boy.

Good quality? Cheap? Does not compute, sorry :(

It IS possible to get good quality cheap tack if you know what you are looking for, are in the right place at the right time, buy second hand and you are lucky. I wouldn't touch most of the rubbish on ebay with a ten foot barge pole. However, I paid £350 secondhand for my Albion jumping saddle which happens to fit my horse rather well so it can be done. (It was in great condition, I was just lucky).

Personally I much prefer buying secondhand tack anyway. I looked up the Albion saddle I have if I were to buy it new and it would be £1250 from my saddler (who is expensive, it must be said). So I do think you get a lot more for your money, plus someone else has already gone to the trouble of breaking it in for you.

Unlike the rest of the world, I have brown tack for dressage and black tack for jumping. If you've got the money to match it, go for it! I was always taught that brown is correct on any colour of horse other than piebalds who should wear black but as I like my black jumping saddle I got a black bridle to match that and a brown bridle to match the other one.

Hey you are preaching to the converted!

OP was originally talking about cheap, good quality, NEW saddles. That's why I said I would rather take the cost of a cheap new one and use it for the purchase of a better second hand one!

I dont know if you might be interested but I have a 17" M/W Havana Jeffries falcon hawk event saddle which i have ridden in to county level showing would sell my whole showing set up including a new Jeffries hunter caverson show bridle and platted reins + pretty ponies style 09 browband please PM if interested would like £300 for the lot but would cost a fortune new :)

Ok, I have sent a reply to your message - hope i dont sound like im on a big sell! No pressure!!! I checked the browband and it is an 04 style not 09 thats my other one  also the reins are not Jeffries but i am happy to include a laced set + plain braddon rein and headstall if you want then you can convert it to a double - let me know if you are interested. :D Potential new horse comes with full wardrobe and is a hunter type so all my hack/riding horse stuff is surplus :(

I'd go with brown if money isnt an issue - depends if you want to show or not. My bay actually had a black bridle and brown saddle at the moment :p which dont go at all but who cares ... he's got a brand new brown 'show bridle' should we ever get to the show ring with him :D

What do you guys think of havana brown?

It comes with a free bridle, this is a different website because I CBA to go through all the websites to find it again right now haha!
So do you guys like the idea of havana brown?
Any suggestions of numnah colours etc?
Yeahhh, brown looks lovely on bays! Some people say it clashes with the black points- how the hell does it, their coat is brown forgoodness sake haha!
