For those of you that have your tack insured, does it state that tack will NOT be covered if it is stored where there are more than 5 other sets of tack from other horses (obviously not worded like that). I was just looking at my old and current documents and it says that I am not covered for being at a livery yard with more than 5 other horses!! But my tack is in a locked locker in a locked tack room!

tack coverage on insurance is a mine field and you are best to ring them tomorrow and ask them to state clearly the rules and regs, they are so bad at paying out that even if the roof on your tack room is not a certain thickness and make you wont be covered ie intruders can simply get in through the roof. ive not insured mine, i have my own tack room, concrete built and standard roof, locked, on an alarmed yard, and i just know its doubtful ill get anything for it if it gets stolen - me pessimistic? surely not!

you are better off insuring them on your contents insurance - extended contents. That covers your items away from the home and is far more likely to pay out than a standard tack insurance with all it's exclusions

Flatmate pays house insurance so cant add it on to that unfortunately

I suggest that all check their insurance because if you read the small print you will probably find that your saddle will not be covered. The saddle is not tack for insurance purposes in many policies & has to be named in the policy & covered for an additional premium. I know it sounds strange, but I assure you that it may well be the case.

and isn`t there small print about the kind of lock you have?
(has to be a 5bar tumbler or summat)
padlocks are no-go.

You should be able to get it included as you are part of the household. If there is contents away from home cover already you may find that you are already covered. My friends yard got broken into a few weeks ago. The only people that got a payout were those that had cover from their home contents policy. Friend was glad she had gone that route as she lost £2k worth of stuff

certainly with the NFU you insurance for tack which covers rugs, headcollars, bridles, boots etc and then the saddles are covered as a seperate item. So I have a set amount for tack and then the saddle are listed seperately.
The saddle that I have at home that doesn't fit Pidge is covered on the home insurance and it cost no extra to put it on.

I was just scrolling down to say that! I cancelled my tack insurance cover when I read that bit of the policy.

Mine just requires it to be secured. I have the standard £1000 tack coverage, and when i renewed my policy I had to add individual items. The total amount of items allowed was not allowed to go past £1000

I don't remember reading that on mine. It does say about the door having to have a proper lck (5 point lever thingy) and no windows etc. My saddle is covered, its listed separately though.
