I find it hilaroius that people pay much money for those halters, we use old fashioned rope halters (and have done for over 30 years!) which cost about £4 per go!
[/ QUOTE ]
I bet you can whizz up a halter out of a piece of rope too!
I have converted a lead rope into a halter before now!
Rubber bit guards- I have some but dont use them now. Horse went through a stage of going bald with stainless steel bits. They worked a treat!
Westropp boots- still have them and still use them. They dont invert and are short enough not to be trodden on but deep enough to protect the heel.

I dont have the money to be fashionable! I still have string vest style sweat rugs, and a jute rug that must be 30 years old. P

I would honestly say get a thermatex or similar. Save up! I was like you, string vest and jute rug, but put my horse on full livery for a while (I normally keep them at home but had an op and couldnt ride). Everyone had thermatexes (it was a posh yard) and I was so impressed at their flexibility I bought one. They really are useful rugs.

ive got westropps i love them and my half pad lol eh one thing that is really hip at my yard not really tack but is numnahs with names on it even for the adults im guilty of that one lol got the jacket to match.

Nooooo....pet hate is nummahs and coats with names - eugh!
I had blue bit rubbers, white reins and red martingale stops and rein stops to match a red white and blue browband, numnah and hat silk when I was a kid (early 90'S) oh and some blue and red westrops! (OMG!!!)
i've got sheepskin half pad and am contemplating another one for the other horse, diamonte browband and i even had a JW chain one with a little diamonte thing in the middle but i have removed that now!! elasticated breastblates are quite in for show jumpers, i've got one and everyone seems to have veredus boots all round at the moment, not long ago it was eskadrons. GPA hats are still going but they're not as popular as they were probably because people are realising that if you fall off your hat will just fold in on you and they have a tendancy to slip so you can't see
, if you watch people riding in the traditional GPA's you can normally see them shoving their hat back during there round cos they can't see, i am one of those people
. I've used bit guards on a sj yard i don't think they're fashion more necessity sometimes

I wear fly veil/ear covers when hacking out in Summer (to avoid flies, obv.), but...
...indoor showjumping in winter?
[/ QUOTE ]
actually i used to jump my mare in ears indoors in winter... as i would stuff cotton wool in her ears so she cant spook/get distracted at all the diff sounds going on....
sachak - I knew some people used it for that, but at one place we went to there were 3 people watching, 3 other horses in the class (last class on the day, place had emptied) and this horse (with terrible rider) was flying round with matching ear things and saddlecloth! When rider got off it immediately started snoozing, so it didn't exactly seem the high strung type.
Everyone at the dressage yard where I work has a diamonte or some kind of blingy browband (I must confess I have one too!) Personally I love them though I know some people can't stand them. Also everyone is into fleece bandages and some of the riders even like to coordinat their outfits so that their clothes, the horses saddlecloth and bandages all match.

Frank is not the high strung type but he has a thing about speakers! not all days but sometimes. He hates any white noise crackle and isn't that keen on beaty music if he is close to a speaker and sometimes they are hard to get away from. He goes all bouncy and silly which is not good in an indoor collecting area.
Don't bother anymore cos I can now read him like a book and keep him away from them!
i do remember it being highly trendy to ride your horse in draw reins!!! it may have been my local area but for a while all the 'trendy' girls did as well as wearing bloody trainers to ride in and jeans- i may have sucumb to the jeans but trainers - how stupid!!!! i also remeber the craze for westropss we were only talking about it the other day in fact!!! my friends pony would turn himself inside out when he heard them!!!

I can indeed make a halter from a piece of rope
and have done many times! have als ofashioned one from a dog lead when found a horse out of it's field
[/ QUOTE ]
Oh god, that reminds me! Found a pony running down a road, was in a colleague's posh and decidedly not horsey car, but did find a muddy abandoned dog lead that I tried to catch the pony with! Cue colleague howling with laughter!
I carry an old rope halter in my car boot for such times!
fashion in my branch of the pony club seem to be sabre bridles with saddle company or balance saddles . both of these saddles are usually worn on top of a mountain of pads and numnahs ! also eskadron boots and jackets with names on the back . ( i confess i ahve a jacket with a picture of my horse 7 name in the back )

mexican nosebands are quite fashinable on eventers as are 5 point breastplates...

Oops! I have a sheepskin half pad, a 5-point breastplate and a Mexican noseband on Jazz...
Eta- I also have clips on cheekpieces... Hmmmm

Also add to that list 3 ring snaffles ( dutch gag)
I was watching local s/j at the weekend and 9 out of 10 horses that came into the ring were sporting a dutch gag with rein on the bottom ring and mexican grakle (badly fitted in most cases!) and a breastplate with martingale. ear muffs/covers and the riders were mostly wearing stuff with JW plastered all over it.
