I will be in Lincolnshire, visiting my partner's family for a couple days between Dec 24th and 28th. As the feed/tack shops near where I live and my horse now lives are few and far between (and suck), I thought I would take the opportunity to stock up on feed/supplements/stuff, as Lincolnshire is really horsey and there must be something good. And it's an excuse to take a break from family drama!

We'll also be moving around between Wainfleet and Louth.

Is there anything good in the above-mentioned areas?

Buckets and muddy paws country store in Louth, Moles in Market Rasen, Chandlers in Horncastle, Tack Shack opposite Moles in market rasen, Killingholme feeds. Are just a few lots of horses in Lincolnshire more per head of population than in any other area in Europe apparently might have something to it being sparsely populated though

Chandlers in Horncastle, and slightly bigger store in Spilsby (not far). Shepherds in Wragby, feed/bedding/supplements only, no tack store, but will order you whatever you want feed and bedding wise, even if not usually stocked and very helpful (only discovered them recently, and I am impressed!)

Muddy Paws is very small and is in South Elkington, not Louth.

TFM near Doddington?

however whilst there may be some horses around, I wouldn’t say Lincolnshire is very horsey. There are no large tack shops, or as many equestrian centres as other counties.

if you want a large tack shop I’d go to R&R in Selby, or there’s one in Melton Mowbray (if it’s still open)

There’s not much of anything in Lincolnshire! I think, if memory serves, the OP isn’t looking forward to visiting? Don’t blame you if that’s the case OP ?

Which way are you heading in/out? Cobbs is South Lincolnshire back out towards the A1 (and would get you out of the house even longer!) it has a good tack shop and feed shop next door but might want to double check if they are open in between! I always go there when I am visiting home in Lincoln from Manchester but it's on the way so would be rude not to! :p

Theres still an R&R in Melton, its far superior to anything around horncastle/wragby in my opinion, unless you just want feed/bedding. There’s sheepgate at leverton which has a small tack shop.

I love this place, R & R loads of really nice good quality clothes and rugs.

I have to admit -- I'm not super keen to go to Lincolnshire. There isn't much to do and most of OH's family are pretty strange. His Dad and grandparents live in Lincoln, and his mother and stepdad (the sanest of the lot) live in Willoughby. So we will be in those areas.

I am born and bred in Lincoln now living in Manchester. Have to say I really miss Lincolnshire!
Lincoln itself is charming with a castle and a cathedral. I lived just outside in the countryside, bloody fresh air loads of stables and always things to do if you know where to go! ;)

Oh I love it here too and am never at a loss for something to do but most people see the county as a dump, and that’s ok by me ? I live 400 feet above sea level in the beautiful Wolds but I just nod and smile when people tell me how flat and boring it is and that they’d hate to live here ?

I have lots a friends in the wolds and I regularly ride there, I love it there

Caol Ila Lincoln is a lovely place to be...good shopping...Brayford Wharf for eating and drinking...steep hill for cathedral and castle and lovely proper pubs all over the place. Daughter is at uni there and my remaining family all live within three quarters of an hour drive. We are leaving Stirling to go to Lincolnshire for Christmas week and am looking forward to it very much. I hope you have a lovely time and that the roads stay clear!

Yup I love Lincolnshire and contrary to the other poster I have never been at a loss for things to do and I have been here since 1977. It is probably the county with the biggest contrasts with flat land and big skies in the South and gently rolling hills and quiant villages in the North. It is the biggest undivided county although Yorkshire is technically the biggest it has always been divided into ridings or areas geographically. Lincolnshire has more hours of sunshine and lower rainfall than anywhere else west of here so mostly it is dry and bright although you could be forgiven if you didnt believe me this year. Only draw back is the cold wind as there is not much between here and siberia to warm it

If you're a nice Jewish girl from the People's Republic of Boulder, Colorado and like mountains and wild places and don't get on well with your OH's weird right wing family -- and at Christmas they're pretty religious and baffled by why you aren't -- you would not love it so much. I appreciate that it's a nice place to have horses and the big sky is like the American Midwest, which has its charms, and the huge beaches are interesting. And there seems to be lots of hacking and plenty of barns.

Ahh...Caol Ila ..your recent post is more enlightening..hum not easy. Belton House has an equestrian centre...go riding or have a spa day there or drive to the Humber Bridge and walk around the nature reserve there or go to the woods or further east to the coast and walk on beach. Actually the R and R shop at Selby is not that far away...

Think your problem isnt where you are but who you are with. So it rather depends on your interests there will be dressage showing and showjumping on but I am not sure if you are a spectator or only like particiating. Sheepgate, Hillhouse, Willowbanks, Kenwick are all fairly close together. Most will be amateur so nothing flash although there may well be affiliated stuff going on at one or more of them

I’ve recently moved to Lincolnshire from Northumberland (Leicestershire originally) and I’m yet to be converted.. there are some nice pubs though

Risley Saddlery near Huttoft worth a look its not far from Willoughby

We live close to the Gunby Estate at the Southern most tip of the Wolds plenty of fields to ride around here, and not too quite
