Tack for a cob

Desperately need to replace my bridle, going to a tack sale next weekend and hoping to find something there, however was wondering what you cob owners have on your cobs? At the moment as you can see hes just got a plain hunter bridle, I quite like it, but do you think he could pull off a raised nose band or is it too fancy?

Cobs ( for showing) would usually have a plain hunter type bridle with a wide flat noseband. The width depends on what suits your horses head. I think the appearance should be "workman like" and not fancy with a plain browband as well. Of course if you are not showing it doesn't really matter. My daughters piebald cob would have a totally pink bridle if she could find one!!
 
Yes, the noseband could be a little wider though. The problem is that you usually have to buy separatly as the most bridles have standard width noseband. I wouldn't worry about it at this stage.
Showing is a bit of a minefield for correct tack, dress etc

I like what youve got on him but dont like buckle billets, am fussy! TAke your noseband with you, and try and find something the same width or wider perhaps. My last horse had a wide padded Stubben which suited him, he was alot like your lovely boy.
 
flat noseband on a cob for me, anything else is just too fussy, keep the width you have, my pet hate is cobs with thin nose bands or even worse none at all -yuk!
 
Yes I dont like the buckles either, but it was all I could afford at the time! Now that Im working though I was thinking I might treat myself to a decent (second hand) bridle...or maybe just a new noseband depending on my finances!
 
Billets and plain cavasson and browband is best. Be careful buying secondhand, there is a lot of stitching to check for rot! I would be tempted to save a bit longer and buy new, it doesnay have to be expensive.

I know that Olympian do a hunter style bridle, with billets and billeted rubber reins, foreign leather but not rubbish, and pre-oiled, for about £25.00. (I know this because I sell them in my shop!!!!!)
 
Nice plain hunter bridle with at least 1 1/2" or 2" wide noseband for your chap. Chancer has a 1 1/4" on his in hand bridle and I am getting a 1 3/4" made up for next season.

When he gets his ridden showing bridle, that too will have an extra wide noseband and browband made for him.

That said, if it is a bargain for hacking and doing other things, then a narrow or raised noseband won't matter.

If you want a little bling you could have a brass browband on the bridle - some of the show trads do.
