Tack Theft - Unbelievable update.

Having had loads of suggestions, comments and names regarding who stole our tack. Both forensics and police agree with the names we are given. To top it off tonight a chap rang didnt give his name, but was a friend of our friend and told us exactly where it is, and it is being stored in one of three garages.

Have rung the police, given the information, and basically without an exact adress they are not allowed to go and look even if the garage is unlocked. But as a civilian I can, so am off first thing in the morning to hopefully recover my tack. I know there are rules and regulations but surely they can walk along and try garage doors and if one is unlocked look inside. I do wonder why we pay for the service when on a 999 call and being told they are on blue lights and the intruders have only just arrived on the premises it takes an hour for them to arrive.

Sorry rant over, I just want my tack back not insurance money.
 
That is just unbelievable!!!
So its ok for you to go and risk getting hurt. Lets all protect the criminals eh. In this day and age it looks like it pays to be a criminal

It wouldnt suprise me if you are the one who could get in trouble for trying to retrieve what is yours,!!

Please be careful if you go looking and make sure you go with someone. These guys might not take kindly to someone poking around! (but good luck and hope you find it, that would be such a fantatic result!)
 
Take a friend and pretend to be looking for missing cat or dog .
I completely agree its disgusting carry on ranting.

i would go now accompanied by a few burly chaps with cricket bats! got any id nos of saddles, micochip or identifying markes? police will not enter or Q gypsies or pykies! i had atrailer nicked and they left a no plate. police did sweet F A. did get a friendly coper to check no back to a pikey camp in lincolnshire!!
 
Well, I can understand the reasoning behind the poilce, as otherwise I can imagine how many people would just get the police into inocent peoples homes to cause trouble/settle personal disputes and grudges etc.

I bet if you went in and found it was yours that they could then act, or did they say they couldn't? I guess they have to go off real evidence, rather than just "someone said". But yeah, I'd check that if you find it's yours, can they back you up if it turns nasty.
 
Oh please dont worry about me I am taking a big Shai Pai (sp) x dog with me and going for a walk and she does bite, just a shame she wasnt running free in the yard that night rather than locked in a stable (lesson well and truly learnt there).

The policeman was giving me directions on the phone exactly where he thinks it is and the location, his hands are just tied by red tape. If I see my tack I am to call 999 immediatly and get back in the car so am not going to be a hero, just want these scum taking off the streets so noone else has to go through the last 48 hours I have.
 
I really hope you find your tack but as others have said please take someone with you, where are you based as I'll gladly come with you ?

seriously, if these people are that well known and blatent, you need to make sure you're safe. i would offer to come, but i'm 1) about to pop and 2) uselessly scared of eveything anyway.... but i can offer my husband's services. he's brave (he's a policeman too) and could help you look for your dog that may have run into those garages...

seriously, please, you mustn't go alone. gawd know what else is in there.

let me know if you want him to help. he'll be home from work early evening.

p.s. in defence of the police... if they 'looked inside' every address they were given intelligence on... they'd be sued by everyone... there's so much red tape...to look inside a building they'd need a warrant from the court, for which they have to give an exact address otherwise it won't be granted. it's a pain, and i'm sure it frustrates the policeman as much as the general public...

Actually - it has the opposite effect, response is delayed to ensure that properly equipped officers can respond, and unless you live in an inner city the chances are the nearest armed officer may be 30 or more miles away - and could be considered as wasting police time as well as endangering those officers and the public on their route as they rush to your reported 'armed' incident

not round here... armed response are millions of miles away when you live rurally!

best to say you 'think' you've seen a knife. cos that doesn't require the armed police. whereas if they think there's a gun they will wait for armed ones...

Seriously, if I wasn't working I would offer to come with you, safety in numbers and all that.

Keep us updated. I still find it very odd that the whereabouts of your stuff (if it is yours) is known.

If these scumbags are known or are local maybe you could pm us locals who they are so we can be more vigilant too.

Sadly I am sure you would have been liable (or whatever) if she had attacked them, madness you can't even protect your own possesions without being in the 'wrong'.
Please be careful I would take someone else with you as well as your dog, at least take a get away driver!!!
