Which ear do you put through the headpiece first?

Weell.....I think she means.....and no offense to anyone.....but - surely THE correct way to put a bridle on is to hold it in your right hand , guide the bit in gently with left hand.....lift bridle up towards the ears with your right hand, pop right ear through with right hand and then adjust the browband/headpiece and slip left ear through- straighten forelock etc and do everything up.

Do they teach it differently these days or are people just deciding to do it differently?

That's how I put the bridle on but I think what the OP means do you put the off side ear in first or the nearside. :)

I don't believe there is a proper way to put on a bridle.

I have no opinion on whether the left ear should be put before the right ear. I can't understand why people would want to talk about that. Its almost as if you have been on bed rest for 10 weeks and scraping the barrel with things to talk about.

I was baffled by this post. Honestly, my head was tilted and my eyebrows went into a strained frown reading this post.
 
Ha ha thats quite funny - we're all so set in our ways! I don't think I could do nearside first either!

Its daft stuff that you can't easily adapt to. Like if I'm tacking up and someone has left the girth fastened on the near side and I try and fasten (not tighten) on the off side I find that really difficult for some reason. And my whole world would end if anyone asked me to mount from the wrong side :eek: Managed it fine as a kid though!
 
Interestingly I learnt to ride alongside Pearlsasinger, BUT I put the nearside ear in first :) This is because I was a very small child for my age and even with its head down and co-operating I could not reach the offside ear under the chin! I can't remember getting special dispensation from the instructors, but must have done!
 
Ha ha ha! Its quite interesting really, think most of us that were 'old school' taught do offside first, but most people with horses difficult to bridle (or hard to reach :p) do nearside first. Its honestly not something I would ever think to do!

Offside first :)

I used to had a horse that was EXTREMELY head shy, and I have a quick way of getting a bridle on ha ha, the technique just kinda stuck and it's hope I put any bridle on now ha ha!!!
