Hello!

Right i have my own yard with 7 horses and a rather small tackroom? How do you have yours - got any pictures?

Best way of Storing things?

What/where do you store all of your spare rugs? Like your new Zealands over the summer when not used? Hang them up? Put them in a chest or something?

I have just bought some Bentley rug storage bags, cheap and handy for rugs. In the summer I take them home and keep them in the garage as not much storage space at the yard!

I bought one of those chests that are used to store outdoor equipment, plastic think like £30 from homebase fits a load of rugs in, for 7 horses you will probs need like 3 though! Saddle racks on walls and pegs underneath for bridles would poss be a good thing to have

I painted mine pink. Lol! I share a small (and I mean small) stable sized one with a lady with 1 horse, me with just 1 horse and then the y/o with his 5 horses. They're very good and keep things tidy. I however am a nightmare. I am the only 1 in our tackroom that keeps hay in there, so i push that right back, I have 3 feed bins, 3 tackboxes tucked right to the side, we have a bit of rope for rugs, but I keep mine in the stable. 3 saddle racks with the bridles hanging underneath. For the amount of stuff in there its actually roomy!

My Tack room is 8x12. A I go through the door I have a cupboard on my left which has got lotions and potions, hoof boots, clippers etc. Next to that I have a large corn bin that I use to store rugs that I am not currently using.

On the back wall of the tack room I have about 15 plastic storage boxes with flip tops at the front (they are all piled up but I can get in to each pone separately), in these I store any spare stuff, leather work, head collars, leadropes, lunging stiff etc (every thing is sorted into it's own box

). Next to those boxes I have a couple of wall mounted saddle and bridle rack, then there's another cupboard with Exercise sheets, bandages and towels in.

Then onto the right hand wall I have a free standing wooden saddle horse, next to that are a couple more flip tops (with brushing boots and girths in it) and then next to them there is a big wooden chest which I store saddle cloths in. On top of that I leave the grooming kits and above that is a hook for my hat and a whip rack.

I like everything to have a place so it's quite organized (although if you go into my bedroom it's a different story

).

I'm lucky that I have part of a spare stable next to the tack room to store feed in and I also hang up any rugs that I am currently using in there which saves alot of space in the actual tack room.

i am on a small yard with 12 stables, we have a fair size tack room.

on the back wall be have a telegraph style pole that we hang current rugs and numnahs on.

on the right wall we have a hook for girths and a shelfing rack for small misc items like grooming kit and lunging equipment. next to that are bridle hooks.

on the front wall is cabinet which contain all the dressage test you can imagine up to elementary, medical draw, bit draw and most importantly tea making stuff!!!

on the left wall there are a couple of saddle racks for day use only and one liverys filing cabinet and cupboard.

I have a tack room in the house and a feed room in the yard. In the feed (narrow) room I have a shelf as you go in (behind outside wall) with "bits" and radio

. Then a trolley with all supplements etc on. Table 4 hot water urn then rectangular metal feed bin for "stuff" (bandage boxes, grooming kit etc). Behind feed bins on wall are all headcollars. In corner at end (and back wall) of feed bin on left I have all my stable rugs hanging up on hooks. Down left hand side I have 2 rectangular feed bins (sort with compartments), then half height garden cupboard, the green and white sort (first aid etc) then "tack" cupboard (converted server cabinet) I use this for daily storage (if in yard), but generally has low cost items - lunge lines etc.

Outdoor rugs are hung in a lean to I built off the end stable.

Tack room has 2 wooden racking from ikea for clean (not in daily use) rugs, hooks for bridles on 1 wall, saddles on opposite wall. 2 sets of plastic drawers stacked in corner by saddles. hanging hooks for "miscellaneous" coming out of the corner to the door.

i have a space at the back of my stable about half the width of the stable and the same length.

On the back of the door i have headcollars and lunging stuff hanging up then a shelf with lotions and shampoo etc.
along the back wall i have plastic draw which have first aid things, spare bridle parts, training aids, haynets, clippers anything like that all organised in separate drawers.

On the opposite wall i have string with rugs that im using and fleaces/coolers. below those i have winter/summer rugs that im not using bagged up.

in the corner i have my feed bins and buckets.

On the small wall i have 3 saddle racks with saddles and about 5 bridle racks with bridles, cavesons and bits of peices.

I have a separate room for storing straw/shavings/hay etc.

I have a garden shed at my yard, which contains all my kit and is my own personal tack room.

I started by putting up as many hooks and brackets on the walls as I could, so stuff can be hung up where its easy to see where it is - bridles, saddles, martingales, headcollars, lungeing equipment, etc. I also have a whip rack.

I bought a tower of four drawers from B&Q which I use to store smaller things - the top one contains feeding related stuff - weightape, syringes of calmer/wormers, treats. Next one down holds my flourescents, next one down contains clean, oiled and put away leatherwork and spare bits, bottom contains other items of spare tack such as girths.

Then I have several flip-lid crates, one full of boots, one full of bottles and sprays and shampoos etc. Depending on the size and thickness you can get a rug or two in them too.

Basically I think the best way of storing things, is to get plenty of those clear, stackable boxes, in varying sizes if necessary and organise things into categories. Dead easy to locate what you want and access it.
