Hi all,
It's been around a year and a half since I bought my project horse Tag Team (2001 Irish Gelding) he finished racing a an 8-9 year old after a very successful career. After months of digging to find out some more info about him and his background his trainers wife Annette, got in touch with my via Facebook after I posted on a group appealing for people with information to come forward. Unfortunately I learnt this poor lad was given away to a "free good home" after his racing career but ended up in a bad way, he was re-advertised for free to good home again and that's when the lady I bought him off (Wendy) saw him and collected him, and nursed him back to a good way.

But before I show his progress I would just like to explain the scenario I was in when I bought this horse. I was an active user of the H&H forums at the time. Stuck with a deathtrap of a horse who unfortunately I bitten off more than I could chew with her. She was untrusting and needed a strong handler and rider. Unfortunately I'd end up on the ground everytime I attempted to ride her or dragged along the field when I attempted to turn her out.
One night on the forums an ad was posted for a horse that was in a bad way, I clicked the ad but in the side bar there was a featured ad for a "16.2 ex racehorse". Instantly I clicked it and fell in love with his kind eye. I phoned the lady up straight away and arranged a viewing. Unfortunately I didn't have the money to fund two TB's so I posted my predicament on here and unfortunately got a lot of stick from users. I continued with the viewing and when to try him. The lady didn't have a sand school and just hacked him out, and I was a nervous hacker from past bad experiences. Anyway, despite me being a quivering mess he looked after me. Didn't even spook at a plastic bag that got caught around his hoof. So I went with my gut, put a deposit down and advertised my horse for sale (honest advert for a specific home). Thankfully she ended up in wonderful hands and is doing great. And me and Tag have been an inseparable team since.

He has taken quite a shine to showing, we have shown him for 10 months so far (over the Summer and Winter) and he does so well and gives 100% everytime out.
This was the horse I bought with 0 schooling, and struggled to even trot on a circle. And this year we are planning to go to County show level (ROR & TARRA classes)

Anyway, photos!

oh what a lovely story, I'm so pleased that both horses have found the right home for themselves and that you've found the right horse for you :)
Thank you! and Yes I'm very glad my old mare has gone to a home for life, the last thing I wanted was for her to be passed around from pillar to post!

What a lovely horse, well done!
Thank you :)

That is lovely to see - you have clearly done wonders with him and make a great team.

PS - love the height of that working hunter fence, that is just my cup of tea! :)

He is gorgeous! And what a change from the first pic!

I'm sorry about your mare. In my experience there is no point in keeping a horse that you're afraid of. It doesn't do you, or the horse, any favors. I think you've made the right decision and I think he is a credit to you.

It was only 30cm, he loves jumping but I have a confidence barrier of anything over 80cm! Plus he loves charging up the steep hills in the WH arena, it's just a bit of fun for him really! :D

Thank you, that was my mindset at the time of purchasing him. People said to me if I can't handle one ex racer why buy another but at the end of the day their personalities and temperaments are at totally different ends of the spectrum. He turns his hoof to anything you ask of him, very unspoilt and very placid. He's a real donkey at heart. My 3 y/o niece turns him out and brings him in 2 times a week. He's a real gent. Whereas my other mare was very temperamental, bloshy, territorial and needed someone who had the experience to deal with her.
