I'm fed up of my horses tails being caked in mud when they come in from the field. Have given up trying to brush them out as it's an impossible task.

Can anyone recommend a tail bag that can be used in the field to help keep them clean?

A way to reduce it (and this works) is to plaster said tail with baby oil and loosely plait it. I did this for my gray horse as got fed up with his revolting nicotine and brown tail. It did made a massive difference..

I use a snuggy hoods tail bag f or my mare as it is waterproof and was on sale it's lasted 2 winters so far:)

Thanks, just looked at the snuggy hoods ones and they look quite good. Do you plait your horses tail to attach the bag to it? What size would you recommend for a 16.2 TB and a 17hh ISH, both with fairly decent tails!

I am so tempted to get one of these because my horse has a beautiful thick tail - well that's what all the people who don't have to brush it daily think!

Ido use a tailgator bag. Perfect, my welsh cob is messy and to be fair her tail is HEAVY so poo goes in it :o but I only remove it once a week. Works really well. Her tail is always very nice (IMHO lol)

I got a large for my mare who is 16.3 ISH but I've used a large on my the 14.2 as he has a long tail! I plait it up to put it in the bag.

As for laziness the bag goes on and stays on for the winter, I even ride with it on. I replait it every week or so.

Brilliant, will go with those then I think. Glad you've said you leave them on, was really dreading having to faff with them before turning out every morning :o

Will remove them for exercise though :D

I've got a Tailgator - its brilliant. I pig oil his tail then loosely plait it and pop it in its bag. I only take the bag off when I ride (and sometimes not even then).
