silly post but what is the longest your are meant to leave them on for

im gonna be helping out with pony club camp and one girl went home, leaving the tail bandage on so tight i couldnt slide it off!! i had to unravel it. being only 16 i just wanted to be ready to say well your are only meant to leave them on for bla amount of time

i used to leave my 13.2 ponys tail bandage on for a while but not tight i just used to damp it down so it wasnt a mess for wherever i was going. i have heard storys of ponies hair dropping out and tails dropping off things like that, which is why i was so wary about how tight it was

in my opinion only leave them on as long as you have too travelling etc.
and definitely not too tight which it sounds like the one you removed was.
if you see a horse with a white line around the dock area of its tail chances are a tail bandage caused it ( not always could be other reasons)
why not suggest a tail wrap they are a lot quicker to use.

Please please please be careful with tail bandages, how tight they are and how long they are left on for. I've seen pictures on another Forum where a horse actually lost his tail, yes LOST his tail because of a transporter doing it up too tightly.

I appreciate yours won't be on for hours and hours on end so shouldn't be a problem. But far better to use the tail wraps as it is almost impossible to over tighten them.

Horse on my yard lost his tail when a tail bandage was left on over night. Poor boy suffers dreadfully in the summer as he can't flick flies off his back. Tail had to be amputated.
