Can anyone explain / show me a link to a video of the tail plait people use when hunting. I can do a good normal tail plait and the one that sits on top but Im fascinated by the plaints that are used for hunting and would like to have a go(you know the type where the tail looks tucked up back on itself, bit like the Lusos have in the videos in the PG)

I hope Ive explained myself correctly

it sounds like there are a couple of ways to do it coz Ive had a couple of replies in Hunting.

Do u do it differently for polo/polo cross?

Plait down the dock, and then when you get to the bottom plait the whole of the tail rather than just the thin bit that you normally do. I secure the end with a plaiting band (or tape, depending on what I have to hand!) with the very ends folded back on themselves to make a neater end. Then I fold the length of the tail in half, so the end is level with the bottom of the dock, and then fold the whole lot up against the dock and secure with tape. If the tails is really long you can fold it into thirds and not halves.

The aussies do it absolutely incredibly, it really is an art form. I've yet to work out how its done (or collar one to demonstrate!!), but the length of the tail is held up inside the actual french plait bit, and they don't use any tape/bands/thread or anything!

Anyhow this is an old school way of putting a tail up for hunting.

Sadly I can not take credit for it!

Was a mate that did this tail & she is a perfectionist!
In other words not an inch of insulation tape is allowed near her horses!
Plus their tails come back nice & clean, also saves on weight carrying it full of mud!

OK thanks sounds the same as two people told me in the hunting room.

Yeah Ive seen the way you are describing the aussies do it and that is absolutely amazing!!

Think Ill stick to the way you guys have described, sounds much easier!

It is like a normal tail plait all the way to the bottom of the dock then instead of doing the little thin 3 strand plait that you usually loop up. Use all the hair at the bottom to make the 3 strand plait. Then fold up & stitch in!
