Has anyone got any tips for putting a ribbon in a pulled (raked, but the pulled-look!) tail - would it be best to plait it in near the base of the dock in a big bow, or to try to wrap it around the top of the tail? Is plaiting enough, or should it to be stitched or banded-in as well?

Can you compensate by also having a ribbon elsewhere on the horse/rider for extra visibility, or does that not mean the same thing?

Going out to a busier environment, so just want to make sure everyone has fair warning.

Many years ago I used to put a red ribbon on one of my horses when I went hunting, mainly to stop people using him as a spare break when they couldn't stop their own horses. I had an inch wide piece of red ribbon sewed on to a piece of elastic in a loop so that I could just stretch this over the horses tail right at the top and it stayed there with no problem.

Thank you, I like the loop of elastic idea! And the tape sounds like it would be stickier than normal ribbon.

I could maybe put a ribbon on the back of my hat as well (as it has a hat band on it anyway, to attach to), as my saddle is a flat TCS so no cantle to attach to.

I just wrap coloured electrical tape around the tail. It never moves and never damages the tail. Mainly in green when we are taking out babies!
