Tail Trouble

Hey i have a 2yr old english setter x hound called finlay. He is gorgeous, never runs out of energy but has a tail like a whip! He keeps catching the end of it, so it bleeds EVERYWHERE! (home looks slightly like a murder scene from knee hight, down!). Is there anything i can do to stop this happening? bandages come straight off as he thinks they are toys! x
 
Speak to your vets, mine cut his tail (quite badly, stitches wouldn't stay in, nor bandages stay on)
He ended up getting docked, such a sensible thing!!
 
i think that is prob the next step. was just wondering if there was anything else to try before that. thank you. x
 
My Ridgeback does that occasionally and I stuck a plaster on it. It stayed on long enough for it to heal so worked for Matty dog!!
 
My Cocker Spaniel used to suffer "wag tail" and had to have three inches removed from his tail when it wouldn't heal and became infected.

After surgery, we still had the same problem as bandages used to wag themselves off.

We cut the top from a 500ml bottle of pop (the Coke ones as they are smaller at the opening, which fitted perfectly). It made a cone shape. This was taped to his tail with sticking plaster, lots of it.

He would continue to wag, but instead of hitting his tail he was now hitting the "cone" of the bottle. It allowed it to heal and "touch wood" we've never had a repeat of the incidence. His surgery was in 1997 too!
 
Go to the DIY shop and get yourself a length of the grey foam pipe insulator that has a split down the middle. Its lightweight so will not affect balance too much when running. Secure on tail with duct tape but leave off at night so the tail can breathe! Very popular amongst the wolfhound fraternity as wolfies always seem to damage their tails!
