Would it be mean to wash my field kept feral horse's tail today...it's still a bit frosty here and was down to about -3oC last night?
She's an 18yo TB and found the hunt passing her field a bit exciting bowel-wise

Very mean, poor thing will have icicles hanging off her backside

But seriously, I'm sure she'll be fine if you just wash the bottom bit of it, and keep her dock dry

I'm afraid it all needs a wash. Her mates are calling her 'stinky'.

hmmmmmmm in retrospect perhaps thats why my horse wouldn't load at the weekend

Not loading is one thing...a wedgie (and I believe my friend wears thongs) is much more dangerous, with the force of an equine neck behind it.

I considered giving mine a tail wash this morning given that he he having a posh dressage lesson at lunchtime, but felt too mean so decided maybe lots of showsheen would disguise the grotty tail!

At the yard here horses's tails are washed every morning (not all of them - done on a rota).

S - When my pony needed a small bath (unclipped and not the warmest day) I had him in the stable drying him with a hairdryer - he rather liked it but the post man and my boyfriend gave me dodgy looks when they turned up!

I washed Mistys tail last weekend as it was flithy. Used warm water and went out for a hack after. By time we got back it was totally dry and white agasin as opposed to manky poo-brown

You are just setting me unachievable targets with the white tail thing...my horse is black...
I may be brave and wash it...if I end up in hospital after a near-fatal wedgie, I will blame you all.

I would get her docked instead, then the problem won't arise again

Good idea, think I may do that with Boss- fed up with attempting to clean white tails.

My mare is so filthy she often has (what is meant to be a white tail although hasn't been white for years now
tongue.gif
) the bottom of her tail washed with the hosepipe, if i didn't people would smell us coming before they see us

Just be thankful you don't have a gypsy cob - Chancer's tail is so thick I have to do it in 4 sections or it does not get done properly. For that reason I bag his tail and avoid washing - luckily it is also black. Thank god for tailbags - my life saver!

I would wash and rinse the dock with warm water if necessary - below the dock doesn't matter whether it is hot or cold.

I used to do my TB's tail in winter - but it was pulled at the top and hardly took any time to do. Used to rub it with a towel to get it fairly dry if weather was really cold.

My boy had to have a all-over body wah the other day! I worked him really hard during our lesson and the nice trainer let me use his horse shower so now he's all sparkly clean again!

i wash the end of Archie's tail in cold water before i go to a comp, and his legs! Dosent do him anyharm
grin.gif
However i do towl dry them and then put leg wraps on afterwards. With his tail its literally just the end that is done aswell
