Just curious.

After bandaging was mentioned on another thread, what do you all do with tails before/during/after foaling?

Laafet, nice one! I'd never thought of that.

I just plait and tie up...I've got a box of long gloves sitting there doing nothing much though, my Vet will love that one :D

I plait the bottom and then tie it up with vet wrap or tape. I always remove it a few hours after foaling once the mare has passed the placenta. I really don't like to keep them plaited cos with the after pain my mares swish a lot and a plaited tail can really hurt a new foal and I think it must be annoying for the mare too. JMHO

Personally, have the bottom already plaited, then it's easy to twist up into a bit of vetrap. At work we use inner tubes - twist the bottom of the tail, bend up the dock and enclose in the inner tube, which grips to the tail and doesn't slip off. Soak in disinfectant after use and re-use. Very effective!
