This attempt is possibly going a bit better than all the various previous attempts 🤣.

This cool coat actually belonged to her predecessor, it's maybe less restrictive than the posh new one we bought especially for this dog. She would only walk backwards in that one.

The idea is still not to lie in direct sun when it's 25°c by 11am 🙃. I might have to move her back into the shade in a bit, but it's a start.

Can people whose dogs happily rock their cool coats post some pics, please 🙂.

I got a lovely ridiculously expensive Ruffwear one for one of the labs - both of them flatly refuse to wear it, they just stand like frozen statues and refuse to move in any direction. Glad I didn't buy two without trialing the first one! Compromise, they aren't allowed anywhere other than shade in these recent temperatures.

Anyone looking for a medium lab sized one you're welcome to it , but not sure of situation with postage and import duty from Ireland to Uk these days. Unless somebody here in ireland might like it?IMG_20210721_100230.jpgIMG_20210721_100240.jpg

My son’s little dog (currently staying with me) has a ruffwear cool coat and he wears it with no problem. Luckily for me as this afternoon we have temps of 33 forecast. Even with the coat we will not be going out until quite late as he is elderly and has heart problems.

We had cool coats for the Rotters but I can’t find the same kind for the Labs. I can only find ones similar to Mrs Jingle's photo. Ours have a piece of the same fabric as the main coat which goes from side to side under the dog and fastens with velcro, which is the same design as the drying coats that the Labs have. One of the Labs froze and walked backwards when she first had the drying coat on but she loves it now.

I've taken it off now, after about 1.5 hours. We did manage some reluctant forward movement. Once the cool coat came off, she embarked on zoomies around the garden in celebration 🤪.

I will keep trying her in it for an hour or so a day. The idea is that she forgets she's wearing it. She doesn't realise that it's for her own good.

If you don't have any takers I'll happily rehome it for my rescue fosters (I foster for a gundog rescue so we have labs/setters/pointers through often who don't fit into the spaniel sized cool coats for my own lot)

Our oldest terrier refuses to walk with any kind of coat or harness on bar a few steps in reverse before sitting down. We've tried various styles of harnesses and coat but get the same reaction from them all! He has a thick, black coat so I did consider a cool coat momentarily before deciding it was probably not worth it.

I have seen a lot of these cool coats out and about - how do they work? I can't get my head around how an additional layer of cloth can make a dog cooler (but my brain isn't that hard to fool so I'm not surprised 😆 )

My black terrier loves sunbathing and I am continually bringing him indoors , I don’t think he would come into the shade on his own and I dread the thought of him getting heatstroke so I’m up and down like a yo-yo while the back door is open .
Terriers, eh?

Can you fit a kiddy gate to your back door to let the fresh air in and prevent the dog(s) from going out? We've got two kiddy gates, one for the back door and one for the bifold door from sitting room direct to outside. They are push fit, no drilling required, we remove them when not needed or are locking up.

When it's really hot and the bifold doors are fully open, then we've got nothing to fit across that gap, though.

Blooming open doors. I just had a bluebottle in my mouth that had gone for a swim in my brew after I left the back door open for the sunshine.

Little Tibbie Gremlin absolutely abhores wearing any sort of coat or clothing. Putting the cool coat on results in offended dashing around, rolling, digging on the sofa, paw waving and other such stropping nonsense which is generally not conducive to the goal of keeping her cool. So no coat it is!

I could do but then it means I’ve got to watch out for my youngest one because he doesn’t ask to go out , just stands by the door , so I will just keep an eye on my terrier who is currently on my lap 🙂

Our beagle that we had before used to do a half pass for the first few strides of her walk when we put a coat on her. She always did from right to left, it was most bizarre and never varied.
