Hi - I'd like to take my horse on holiday this year, and I'd like somewhere which offers a mix of tuition (SJ/XC) and escorted rides (as its not likely my horsey friends will be able to come with us this year). I've not come across anywhere that offers escorted hacks on your own horse.

Has anyone any ideas or recommendations? We're based in the North West.

I really like the Yorkshire Riding Centre near Harrogate - Chris Bartle's place. It should be within striking distance of you.

The facilities are great - two indoor schools, XC course and most of the tutors have a really good 'working with you' attitude. The food and accomodation (human and equine) are excellent.

Not sure about escorted hacks, though the riding round there is pretty good - you might just have to find your own way round. Can also be a bit pricey, depending on who you have for lessons.
 
There is a yard at Ringford in Dumfries and Galloway owned by John Jack which offers accomodation, escorted hacks, use of small indoor school and outdoor manege + tuition. Castle Douglas, DG7 2AR 01557 820225‎ 07885 168093‎ It is by the Glengap forest which has miles of riding. They are friendly and down to earth (JJ is an elderly dealer/driver/producer with a fund of stories and his partner is competent, qualified and much younger). I met them when I went to look at a 4yr old for sale - had a great time seeing every horse on the yard, discussing breeding, carriage construction etc and nearly missed lunch with Mother
