"Taking a punt"

The only experience I have with vetting was one lovely old hunter with navicular and sarcoids. Vet pointed out the sarcoids (which were obvious and hadn't changed for 15 years), and said he'd got COPD - which he hadn't. He missed the Navicular altogether. Glad I wasn't paying for that!

I can't help thinking that on that occasion they missed an opportunity to buy a substantial, mannerly hack for the price of his saddle.

I had 1 of my horses vetted & she turned out to have all the problems
I didnt have my current mare vetted as she was 2 when I bought her, she has good confirmation & lovely paces, she had clean legs , clear eyes & after a good canter round the school was none worse for wear breathing wise
Yes I took a punt it was all my inheritance I put into her against my parents at the times support but she has turned out better than I thought she would & I certainly have not lost any money! In fact if I sold now I would have made a decent amount
