I bought a new Kadence rug from Counntrywide last weekend, and used it yesterday. I know it was heavy rain but all the others that were rugged, be it in cheap Saxons or more expensive Rhinos, were bone dry at teatime. The one in the new rug was soaked through.

I'm inclined to take it back and ask for a refund, worth a try or not? It does say waterproof on the bag and swing ticket, and it was very far removed from waterproof.

I bought a Weatherbeeta LW rug from Rideaway and it leaked like a sieve.
I rang them, they arranged collection it from me, and sent me another one straight out.
Would definately take it back.

Test it first. Having worked in a very large tack shop I know that claiming a rug leaks is a little iffy. Many people take rugs back saying they loeak when in actual fact they don't, the horse has got too hot.

dry the rug completely, then lay it over a bucket, and place your hand in it to make a dent. Fill this with water and leave it for tewnty fout hours. If water has gone through it genuinely leaks, if no water goes through, then your horse got hot.

Definitely take it back - I had a 'rogue' Amigo refunded because it wasn't waterproof (and bought a Rhino instead).
However, a 100 gram Weatherbeeta that leaked like a sieve was returned to the manufacturer who sent it back saying it wasn't faulty. I still have the rug and cannot use it when it rains ........

Could be a faulty batch but have to agree with earlier post, sweaty horse could equal wet inside. People unfortunately try it on when they dont like a rug after using once or twice, its an old trick and unfortunately some fraudulent people spoil it for the genuine ones.

Ruscara - why not get your rug re-proofed and see if it is ok then? Could be that it escaped the waterproofing process when it was made at the factory, you never know.

I have yet to find a waterproofing product that actually works worth a damn. In fact, I think I'll start a thread .........

I took it back and they swapped it for a better one no question. The temperature here on Tuesday was cold, and this is the lightest weight rug imaginable which is why I bought it, it had a mesh lining and would be lighter than a Rhino,. She has never sweat up even in the Rhino summer TO in the past, or indeed in PE etc. etc.

Today it is warmer by a long way and she is in her old Rhino, and while warm under it not the least sweaty, so I do feel it leaked. Plus she was wet over the whole of her back, sides etc, and don't think the middle of her spine was from sweat. If it was sweat though then the claim about breathable was way way out.

The fit was perfect and I liked the rug so was a genuine problem IMO.
