Does anyone take their dog out riding in a dog carrier rucksack?

I would love to take my dog out with me, she is a JRT x Chi. I wouldn't be able to let her run loose because of her being small so I was thinking about the dog carriers and having her strapped to my back.
I would stop in different places for her to be able to get out, stretch her legs and have a wee etc.

What are peoples views on it?

My small one is happy with a pootle round the fields while I poo pick, then a walk on the common outside my yard, then depending on temperature she either goes in the car to keep warm, or in the cool hay store where she has a choice of 2 beds (1 is in a crate) whilst I go out riding.
I really wouldn't take her out riding with me, whatever her size.

Nope, very dangerous for you and the dog if you fall. If the dog shifts in the rucksack, it will affect your centre of gravity, unbalancing both you and your horse.
We used to ride with the dogs running alongside, which they and the horses enjoyed, but hooves and paws remained in contact with the ground.

I wouldn’t take even a small dog in a rucksack, I’d never forgive myself if I fell on them. Mine comes out hacking and runs alongside, she’s trained to stay exactly by my left stirrup when I tell her to, and the horses are all great with dogs. We have to cross one road which is not legal but it’s quiet and she’s well trained at this. There’s a big verge to wait on until it’s clear. A lot of car drivers have said how good she is. Hacking with your dog is just lovely.

My friend rides her horse with her two dogs running beside her
Two very well trained dogs
Wouldn’t carry dog with me tho for safety and potential added weight to stay in 20% (depending on dog weight obviously)

Having a rucksack on your back alters your centre of gravity. This could alter your riding position once you remove the rucksack, as well as not safe for the dog in an accident.

You might be able to train a small pooch to ride a pack horse, or even on the rump of your own, but I certainly wouldn't carry one in a backpack on my own ridden horse. You would likely kill it in the event of a fall.

This was my solution to bringing the dog along.
Even in extreme old age (she lived to 17) would wait by the wheel when we were putting to so that we would take her.
