Taking Infants to Horse Shows

Hi all,

I would really like to attend Horseworld Live and Olympia this year during the day. My little boy is nearly 4 months old and obviously would be coming along with me. I went to Hickstead this year and plenty of people had babies/children with them but I wasn't sure if it would be a similar sort of thing or not, since its an indoors event.

Has anyone here been with their infants in previous years? I just wanted to check it was an ok thing to do, being a new mum :) I would of course leave the arena if he started crying or disturbing others, but he is a pretty good baby so I don't foresee him being too much of a problem anyway.
 
Yes he goes everywhere in his sling - hates the pram (it usually ends up being used as a shopping trolley!) Although my back is starting to suffer the bigger he gets... Thanks for your reply.
 
It wouldn't even have occurred to me to ask, I would've just taken my daughter. I'd definitely suggest you make sure you have feeds ready or are set to feed whenever he needs it though or you might get a few dodgy looks, but other than that go for it and have a nice day :)

I also wouldn't try to take a pushchair or anything though. ;)
 
Thanks bikerchick :) I know I shouldn't worry but I didn't want to travel there only to be turned away. I'm sure it will be great fun and he needs to be introduced to mummy's hobby as soon as possible lol! Can't wait to start buying mini sized chaps etc :)
 
It's my belief that kids of any age should fit in with you, I remember my youngest now in her 30's being in disposable nappies while camping in the New Forest, one pony pinched a loaf of bread out of the car, another the pack of nappies, neither pony was willing to part with their spoils.
I take my grandson with me whenever possible to horse trials, county shows etc and he has been round horses since being a baby, you need to plan ahead with meals etc, but very do-able.

They are much easier when they are little - toddlers and spectating do not generally mix - well not for long anyway!

So long as you are (not like some people at this summer's olympics!!) aware of when you baby may be disturbing others who have paid also, then I think it is great you are getting out and about. So many ladies I know allowed their lives to come to a grinding halt and that is not healthy for anyone!
 
I took my little boy to Olympia last year when he was 10 months along with his sister who was 2 1/2! We had a brilliant time. Parked the pushchair in the cloakroom and had enough snacks to keep everyone happy. Popped in and out of our seats whenever they got s but restless but we had a great time.

Taking them both again this year on the Sunday afternoon.

I took my daughter to HOY show at 6 months- was fine with pushchair- gave me something to hang all my bags on ;)

She just sat on my knee in the arena seating clapping away :)
 
I took mine to Olympia as babies then didn't take them when they we're at the crawling and fidgety stages and this year I'm taking them again as at 6 & 7 they will LOVE IT- bring on the shetland grand national, panto and the shopping!!!

I used these too but back then they were suited for slightly old babies- more stable with their necks and heads- so I guess its how strong your baby is...

Definitely worth the money though as they last years!!!
 
as someone without a child (at the mo :p), I dont see a problem with taking them as long as they are quiet (i know easier said than done!) during the performance. When we went to see monty roberts demo the other week and a baby came along (it was freezing!) and it just cried the whole time, it was really annoying and im sure a bit off putting for the people doing the demo

*runs and hides for cover* :)
